Humax DRT800 DVD-R/RW Recorder/TiVo Series2 DVR Combo
I bought this unit brand new and ran well for almost a year. Luckily just before warranty expired it started having problems of skipping frames and pausing. Called UMAX and they replaced it for me. The second unit lasted about a year and started with same problem as the first one and rebooting by itself. Called UMAX Again and was told hard drive gone bad due to overheating. They asked for 0 to have it fixed and Tivo wouldn’t help since it was not their product. I said to Umax screw you. I bought a new 20 GB hard drive and replaced it myself without losing my lifetime Tivo subscription. Thanks to posts on the net on how to replace Tivo harddrive. I also bought a small harddrive fan that i mounted on the hd to keep it cool. It has been 2 years since then with no problems and still running as good as new. if and when this one stops working, i would buy one direct from Tivo. Only issue with Tivo brands they have no DVD writer. Overall it was not a bad purchase for me. …This one is my favorite. The problem that most people run in to with DVR’s _and_ Tivo, is a full drive. A larger hard drive just means more old shows to sift through when space is needed, before going on vacation, for instance. The Humax Tivo Series2 DVR Recorder allows me to archive those shows to watch later. Or even watch on my laptop while sitting in the airport!
